DIY: Wine Bottle Vases

I wanted to share this super simple (and cheap) DIY that will definitely spice up your bedroom, dorm room, living room, or even your dinner table! I have seen this all over Pinterest, so I decided to give it a try! I decided to do a Fall and Christmas theme for each one of my vases. Below is a list of supplies you will need, let’s get started!! 🙂

You will need:

  • Wine bottles
  • Spray paint or any paint of your choice (I prefer a spray paint with a metallic finish!)
  • Fresh or fake flowers (I prefer fake because they last foreeeeever!!)
  • Burlap String (or any festive wrap you have in mind)
  • Double-sided craft tape
  • Scissors
  • Knife
  • Plastic covering or garbage bags

One of the best things about this DIY is that we will be using used wine bottles, which means you don’t have to spend $5-$10 on a bottle from your local craft store. The only trouble that comes from using your own wine bottles is taking off the labels!!

The next thing you want to do is fill up your sink with hot water and submerge your wine bottle and leave it for 5-10 minutes so the label becomes very moist and easy to remove!

Once you have taken off the wine labels from your bottles, it’s time to prep your paint station!! I spray painted my bottles on my front porch because I wanted to take advantage of a very windy day (so they would dry faster!) I highly recommend you put down a plastic sheet or a couple garbage bags, to make sure you don’t create a mess!

I sprayed my bottles with one coat of my handy dandy metallic pure gold spray paint and left it to dry for about an hour. My favourite thing about this spray paint is that I don’t need to go back and do a second full coat. I only had to touch up certain areas and then let them sit for another 30 mins.

This is what my bottles looked like after one full coat of spray paint and touching up certain areas! aren’t they pretty??!! I’m in love with this gold colour!!

As I noted above, I decided to use fake flowers because they last forever! I picked up a bunch from my local Michaels for around $3-$5 each!

You can either place your flowers directly into your painted vases or add a few finishing touches! I decided to use my double-sided craft tape to secure my burlap string around the stem of the bottle to add a little Fall touch to it.

I decided to leave my Christmas themed vase the way it was… but of course you can add your personal touch!

  1. LOOOVE THIS so much! I have so many empty wine bottles on my bar cart (because I like to remember the ones I liked.. and because they’re pretty looking bottles) – Now I have an excuse to keep them PLUS a reason not to buy more new vases. Can’t wait to get started on my new found project!
